Why Retreaters Fail
Welcome back, my awesome Bezzies!
Have you wondered why children cry and, in fact, are expected to cry immediately after delivery? Some are of the view that “they are exposed to cold air and a new environment so that often makes them cry right away.” Well, beyond that, I believe they cry because they suddenly become aware of the fact that they have been born into a world of warfare. Sadly, many people have failed abysmally because they retreat in this inevitable warfare. I want to enlighten you in this blog on why retreaters fail. Let’s get started!

We are in a constant battle against the enemy, and the battlefield is our minds. However, “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds [1]”.
In Ephesians 6:11-18, Paul talks about putting on the full armor of God. When we observe the armor as described by the Apostle, we see that our whole body is covered, but you notice that there is no provision for your back. This is because, the Christian is never supposed to run from the enemy, but fight the good fight of faith, praying always! We are to “stand against the wiles of the devil [2].”
Nothing for the back
Absolutely, no provision has been made for run-away Christian militants, that is why Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God [3]”. This confirms why there is no armor for our backs. God does not intend for you to turn your back from that marriage, business, relationship, etc., unless that is His will for your life.
When Julius Caesar sailed over the channel from Gaul and landed with his legions in what is now England, he did such a clever thing to ensure the success of his army: he halted his soldiers on the chalk cliffs of Dover and upon looking down over the waves a hundred feet below, they saw red tongues of fire consume every ship in which they had sailed with; they were now trapped in the enemy’s country. With the last link to their continent gone, and the only means of retreat burned, there was but one thing left for them to do: to advance, to conquer. And that is precisely what they did.
Don’t be a fugitive
A soldier who runs away from the battlefield is mocked, if he puts his weapons down and surrenders, he is seen as a fugitive. However, if he doesn’t fight skillfully and is taken captive, it is afflictive. No matter how hard the enemy fires at you and your family; you may have been hit and beaten into the lowest valley, your only option is to soldier on!
Most people allow their weaknesses to be the reason why they won’t proceed to exercise their spirituality. Even the heroes of old were men and women of weaknesses.

The Scriptures declare that these heroes were made strong out of weaknesses. Even though most of them experienced failure and flaws, they would have made the front pages of the newspapers in our day for their heroism. We must be careful when judging the weak moments in their lives. Consider the entirety of their lives and you will see that the dent in their armor didn’t affect their performance on the battlefield [4].
Don’t throw-in that towel
The problem with many Christians is that they give up too easily and quickly. They give up on praying, fasting, and other spiritual activities because, they ‘claim’, the more they embark on them, the worse things become. However, as Isaac Newton rightly said, “action and reaction are equal but opposite [5]”. Whenever you fire at the enemy and he doesn’t retaliate, it is a clear indication that it wasn’t effective. The only reason why you are going the opposition is because the enemy is throwing those things back at you as reactions. If you don’t give up but rather become resilient, the enemy will give up on you shortly.
